Mar 19, 2007 8-BIT: A Film About Art & Video games
March 27th + April 4th @ Alamo Drafthouse
The Alamo Drafthouse presents 8-BIT -- Part rockumentary, part art expose and part culture-critical investigation, 8-BIT is a documentary examining the influence of video games on contemporary culture - from the 80's demo scene to chiptune music and contemporary artists using machinima and modified games. With the help of media critic Ed Halter and new media curator and writer Christiane Paul, these very recent artistic strategies are put in the historical context of modernist and postmodernist discourse and examined as potential examples of a transition into fresh, uncharted territory.
8-BIT brings a global perspective on the new artistic approaches of the DIY generation which grew up playing Atari and Commodore 64, featuring artists such as Cory Arcangel, Bit Shifter, Bodenstandig 2000, Bubblyfish, Mary Flanagan, Alex Galloway, Glomag, Paul Johnson, John Klima, Johan Kotlinski, Nullsleep, Joe McKay, Tom Moody, Akiko Sakaizumi, Eddo Stern, TEAMTENDO, Treewave and Carlo Zanni.
This screening was organized and curated by the Alamo Drafthouse and AMODA is an official sponsor of this event. Also, the band Treewave will be performing live at the March 27th screening!

Mar 7, 2003 The arts in Texas are in danger -- and need your help
Governor Rick Perry recently requested the Texas Commission of the Arts (TCA) cut their current budget by 7% and next year's budget by 24%. Considering Texas already ranks at the bottom of all states and territories in public arts funding per capita, such a cut is unacceptable.
Governor Perry's request seriously jeopardizes the financial support received by hundreds of arts groups across Texas, including AMODA. If these cuts are approved by the Texas Legislature, the loss to our community will be tremendous.
Speak out. Send a message to our Texas Legislators telling them how important arts organizations like AMODA are to you. The Legislature needs to be educated!
Contact Governor Rick Perry or Senator Gonzalo Barrientos. To look up your State Representative visit http://www.vote-smart.org.
