Smash TV
Bpitchcontrol
Berlin, Germany
Named after a vintage video game, Smash TV represents the cutting edge of Berlin's underground dance music scene. With two albums out on Ellen Allien's influential Bpitchcontrol Records, they're one of the cornerstone artists on her label. Their sound has much in common with Allien's recent work, combining elements of electro, cut-up disco, IDM, techno, and pop music.
The duo of Holger Zilske and Michael Schmidt first began experimenting with electronic music in the late 1980's. By the mid-90's they had produced music under various aliases, done commercial sound design work, and had releases on Zulu Records. In 1999, they met Ellen Allien and have collaborated with her ever since.
Over the next several years, they released their first album on Bpitchcontrol and did remixes for other artists on the label. In 2003, Holger provided production assistance to Ellen Allien on her "Berlinette" album, and subsequently toured Europe with her. 2004 saw the release of the 2nd Smash TV album, "Bits For Breakfast" and the hit single "Queen of Men" with vocals by Raz Ohara.
Currently, Holger is working with Ellen Allien on her new album "Thrills" (to be released in May) and embarking on his
first U.S. Smash TV tour!
