Karen Skloss is a self-appointed quack scientist for the new millennium whose social experiments focus on human communication in the electronic age. She is interested in studying the impact of technical innovations in communication technology on traditional social settings found within the family and community i.e. living room & other home spaces, malls & other market places, human mating rituals etc. She uses live video to create a video "set" that participants can use as a cumbersome tool for exploring and examining their interpersonal communication in a social setting. Her installation works have been included in the Cinematexas International Film Festival, The Refraction Arts Project, The Gallery Lombardi, and the 1/4 Hora Gallery in conjunction with the Austin Museum of Art. She works locally as an editor for film and video and her editorial works have been screened in the MOMA NY and broadcast nationally. She is currently in production on a documentary feature.
Blind Date Blind Date is just that -- a "Blind Date" rigged via live video from one part of the bar to another. You communicate through the overhead screens. Step up and hook up -- or don't. But one extra detail -- you can't talk to each other (well at least the way you normally would) -- so be creative & good luck.
