Paul Baker
Austin, TX
My father is a sculptor and art teacher. I have always loved science fiction. I don't know why I decided to go to film school at TCU in Fort Worth. I started to work with small gage film and other projections as accompaniment to 'space rock'. In 1997, I moved to Denton, touring that year with Mazinga Phaser, and starting work with Sub Oslo.
I also worked in video, and was featured by the Good/Bad art collective.
My video work has always explored feedback and static, presenting the organic shapes of analog energies.
'Science', a video included in the Sub Oslo CD 'Rites of Dub', was the product of my first attempts at enhancing these shapes digitally. Along with abstraction, I employ montage and collage. In September, 2006 I won the first Sound Scene VJ competition in Austin.
My audio/video solo act is called Vision System. It has been seen at Dorkbot. In 2007, I moved to Austin. That year I released at least 2 DVDs. 'Energy Patterns' is a collaboration with sound artist Jorge Boehringer. 'Sub Oslo DVD' collects my video work with the live dub band.
