Nicedisc

New York, NY

You know the sound a dr. sample makes when you throw it out the window? that's nicedisc. well, not really: nicedisc is more the best frat party you've never been to, like the best screensaver in windows95 times a million, like a ZX spectrum hitting on an atari 2600. nicedisc will transform your cynical attitudes towards beats and melody by using freeware software, not-so-free shareware, and completely-unfree hardware. they also use zildjian cymbals -- well, they would if they could play drums. i... Nicedisc will also be showing their own video accompaniment.

Bob Sawey
Bob Sawey

Growing up in a low income household, Bob Sawey began to sense music with pots and pans, creating an outlet to a variety of "instruments" he would later find himself participating in. Organ, trumpet, phone equipment, digital technology and anything that would create a vibration was his voice. Artists like Danny Elfman and Laurie Spiegel have been some of his stronger influences overall. He has been known to use whatever he could get his hands on to write music. If any theme is to be extracted fr... More >>

Dots
Houston, TX

Dots is the collaborative effort of Houston based artists Omar Al-Bochi and Josh Nolan. Since 1994 they have cataloged a broad range of songs and clips covering many different themes and concepts. In addition to their audio artistry, Dots produces 2-D Flash animations and t-shirt designs. The two members got their start experimenting with 8 bit sound cards, mono samplers, Casio keyboards and other basic equipment. Over time they acquired new tools, progressing their sound and performance. Dots n... More >>

Artificial Music Machine
Austin, TX

Thomas Fang is a DJ who explores musical territory ranging from ambient and trance to industrial and power electronics. Though fond of dark soundscapes, he also enjoys the melodic possibilities of "intelligent dance music." Originally from Washington, D.C., Thomas received his B.A. in Geography from the University of Texas. After hosting a show on KVRX (91.7 fm) during his student days in 1998, Mr. Fang found a better outlet for his expression at Radio One Austin, an unlicensed community radio ... More >>

Pixeltone Gradients (Shift Series)
Java Applet Animation

This series is a derivative of Pixelscapes utilizing halftone conversions, gradient filters and the Huerot applet to explore Abstract Expressionism. In visual experiences, harmony engages the viewer, and it creates an inner sense of order, a balance in the visual experience. Observing the effects colors have on each other is the starting point for understanding the relativity of color.

Tom R. Chambers is a documentary photographer and visual artist with over thirty real-world exhibitions and several virtual-world exhibitions. He is self-taught with numerous photo/visual arts workshops and arts public programming to his credit. He founded and directed a photography gallery, Viewpoint, which catered to nationally-known photographers and was mentioned in American Photo Magazine. Many of his projects are now a part of various archives around the world, and he's currently working w... More >>

VIDEO THOUGHTS SERIES: Blink, Crayola, Vicinity, Whisper

Video Thoughts are just that- they are a series of environmental and emotionally induced experimental videos that not only identifies and reflects "everyday monotony", but also attempts to fuse the use of both digital and analog methods of creating organic effects in a digital landscape.

coleco aka Freddy Ouano creates and designs videos and videogames. A background in film and music videos, Freddy’s latest creations are "video thoughts" which will be a part of MediaAssassins.com, an art and culture video webzine. Freddy recently designed and implemented full motion video into a new Sony Playstation2 visual mixer, "moderngroove: Ministry of Sound Interactive"; and is currently designing and producing new videogame concepts, in which he anticipates to further examine and combine ... Max Held
B-G Field Interference
Max Held
New York, NY

RADIAL-4XB, UNITED, TRIO, B-G FIELD INTERFERENCE
Archival digital print

The four images (all archival digital prints) to be shown were made over a four year period. Each is part of a larger series. They are all explorations of interference between arrays, planes and repeating figures. Like music or traditional painting, they're only successful if they create an emotional resonance.

Max Held is the pseudonym of a photographer. He studied architecture and painting at Cooper Union and visual communication at Parsons School of Design. He taught photography at Parsons and visual communication and communication technology at Pratt Institute. Always a painter, it is only a happy, if complicated accident that he acheived success as a photographer. This "day job" has allowed him to work and develop sheltered from the demands of the traditional gallery-museum environment.

Joe Huck
Intersect
Joe Huck
Austin, TX

Intersect I, Plane Confused, Power Grid
Print in light box

My work is an attempt to involve the viewer in an exploration of our familiar visual reality by juxtaposing it with a reality of my own creation. The artworks I create are based on the moiré phenomenon. Two interacting arrays of elements, on parallel planes, create a mathematically delineated and completely predictable pattern space that interpenetrates the familiar space we inhabit. In perceiving the elements that interact, as well as the phantom shapes that emerge, we become aware of our active participation in the creation of visual reality.

I consider myself a life-long artist who has not, until recently, seriously pursued art as a career. I received B.A and M.A. degrees in fine arts from the University of Dallas, and then spent the next 25 years in the prepress end of the commercial printing industry, applying much of what I learned there to ongoing artistic explorations. Recent developments in digital output technology have finally allowed me to bring these explorations to fruition.

Alex Killough
Traffic in Waves
Alex Killough

Traffic in Waves, Guru
Short Films

Many of my videos are explorations of the relation between image and sound; the way the two can be played off one another and the varying degree of space (diagetic and otherwise) allowed for by audio-visual relationships. I am most interested in working with concrete sources, but in such a way that the referents become disassociated with both their source and that source's allegory, metaphor, and conceptual baggage.

A graduate of the UT Austin Fine Arts Dept., Alex Killough has been messing with electronic media for some number of years. His most visible projects have been the pop groups OMD 20.20 and A Roman Scandal, both met with some degree of critical acclaim and logical chagrin. Currently an MFA candidate at the California College of Arts and Crafts, Killough's work has been shown (outside of various drinking establishments) at the Fine Arts Cinema, Berkeley, and at the Jamail Swim Center at UT Austin....
