DJ Delgatti

While at UT John Barker became involved with 91.7 KVRX radio, and hosted a long running radio mix show called "Hicksville for Delgatti" where he created long flowing mixes of ambient, electronic, and post rock bands. He featured bands as diverse as Stars of the Lid, Fuxa, ISAN, Accelera Deck, the Azusa Plane, Herrmann and Kleine, and drew heavily from the Darla, Rocket Girl, Kranky, and Morr Music record labels.

DXM formed in 1993 by Sean Owen and Josh Knowles, high school sophomores interested in the same synth-pop and becoming interested in the newer forms of electronica they were discovering at the time. In '96, Sean headed for Harvard (to major in computer science) while Josh stayed in Austin to attend UT. Each continue to create independently and collaborate as DXM.

Kurt was born in 1979 in Sitka, AK. After 15 years of moving through logging camps with his father in Southeast Alaska, Kurt discovered electronic music through fellow skateboarder Dave Fuller (aka Buckminster Fuzeboard). Until he left the islands to pursue a B.S. in computer sciences at University of Texas at Austin, he experimented with sounds and equipment in a self-made closet studio in his dad's trailor. Kurt now designs computer programs that autonomously manipulate audio and video. He ... More >>

Eight Frozen Modules began as Ken Gibson's side project of the formerly Austin-based band Furry Things. 8fm's first release was a 12" for Trance Syndicate titled "Daydream Nightmare EP". Soon afterward the "Confused Designer" CD was released (also on Trance Syndicate) and the "Confused Electrician" CD/LP on Germany's City Slang label. Right around that same time Kake Mix released another 8fm 12" EP called "Leftovers from the Inside of a Circuit Board Gone Wild." In 1997 Furry Things moved to LA ... More >>

Self-proclaimed "#1 Entertainer", Cex has made a huge wave in the IDM scene by cultivating what most laptop electronica musicians have not, stage presence. When taking to the stage, you're more likely to see him in front of his laptop, than behind it. Past performances have included everything from funny anecdotes to freestyle rap; and Cex is relentless at engaging the audience to not just watch, but participate in the performance. But don't let those simple hip-hop loops and on-stage antics foo... More >>

Water Falls is the minimalist music project of John Barker and Erik Wofford. John works with an Apple Powerbook, and a Roland sp-808, while Erik prefers analog equipment, guitars and effects pedals. Erik is currently the dj of Galileo on Motion, inspired by his own project of the same name. Erik makes home recordings of guitar loops and endless reverbs that laid the foundation for his ambient music. His past recordings were made under the Galileo project name, and has become a favorite of Dar... More >>

Video Mixing
during DJ Delgatti, The Buddy System, and Water Falls

John Barker makes meditative colorful abstractions that draw from his love of nature and the intersections of technology. He prefers to think of his video experiments as light paintings. Even simple shapes and colors are immediate and visceral, playfull yet hypnotic. His work has also included video shot in Japan, the desert, ocean waves at sunset, and a light installation at UT McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mts. John also makes ambient digital music in the duo Water Falls, using a sp-808 an... More >>

This is a good representation of what i have done over the course of the past year. I have tried to avoid what i see as western notions of art and tried to contribute something to the continuum of Chinese art. Hence, i have gone forward with the goal of making it decorative (East Asian art has always had some decorative function), and, in the process, tried to convey a sense of energy.

Robert Chu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. In his work, Robert tries to reconcile 'Chinese-ness' with notions of modernity. The exoticizing of culture, Chinese vs. foreign attitudes towards art, and a certain type of world view are elements that he tries to engage in his attempt to communicate both the 'true' beauty of his culture and his own version of Chinese nationalism.

Chaos Hags 1-4
Projection Installations

Chaos Hags 1 – 4 is a series of short experimental digital animations of the female body. Each Chaos Hag is an animated, moving collage, made from images of female film stars found in mass media sources. The Chaos Hags unveil aspects of the female psyche, serving as visual metaphors for psychological states. The Hags don’t try to hide their faults; instead, they flaunt them. A Chaos Hag is like your best friend, the one whose problems you already know, but she still insists on telling you about them over and over again.

Courtney Egan manipulates video as if it were a traditional collage element, cutting, pasting, and animating video clips. Her current body of work, the "Chaos Hags," consists of found video and film clips which are shaped into female "bodies," animated, and projected life-size. Her video art questions traditional representations of the female body in moving media.

Courtney's videos have shown in galleries, at festivals, and on the web. Her first video work appeared in the New Or... More >>

Iotic Experiments
Interactive Projection

Three mathematical ascii animations. z -> z˛ + c was inspired by a fascination with ascii art, coupled with an interest in fractals and fractal art. The other two, Mouse Moire and Moire were entries for a competition to make interesting web content in under 256 bytes (characters). These explore minimal algorithms needed to make a pattern 'interesting'.

Dan Sayers was born in Canterbury, Kent, southeast UK. He studied math at Oxford and has been working at Kleber for the last two and a half years, mostly making sites for musicians and record labels.

Josh Knowles is a recent graduate of NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program, where he concentrated in social software design, game design, and other ways of creating group collaboration. His thesis project, PhonePlay, is a platform for allowing groups of people to come together for playful, game-like art experiences using their mobile phones as controllers. One simply calls the number on the screen and pushes the buttons on the phone the way one might a Nintendo controller. Games bui... More >>

Travis Lindquist came to age in Boston MA, where he went to school at Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. A painter at heart, he takes this athstetic into each project he works on. Most of the work deals with our consumerist driven society and the human spirit. His jump into digital art came last year when he was given a chance to work on Richard Linklater's digitally animated film "Waking Life." Since that time, digital video has become the medium of choice for Lindquist... More >>
