IN THE PARKING LOT
"See the Elephant!" is an immersive
video installation featuring footage from inside and outside of the 2004
Republican National Convention, in which
four screens depict four different viewpoints: conventioneers, protesters,
police/security, and non-aligned bystanders.
This projected piece includes an atmospheric
surround audio mix (created by electronic musician J Lesser) featuring natural
sound,
impromptu interviews and overlapping content to create an intelligible, multi-linear,
political narrative. (2004, 1hr)
About the creator: Ryan Junell is a San Francisco-based video artist whose
work has appeared on MTV2, ResDVD Resistance, Sonar Festival (Spain),
the New York Underground Film Festival, and dozens of galleries and clubs in
San Francisco and New York. Junell is a member and live video mixer in the
electronic music foursome Sagan, featuring the audio talent of Prix Ars Electronica
recipients J Lesser, Blevin Blectum and Wobbly.
