AMODA Youth Media Program
Mission
The AMODA Youth Media program reaches out to youth and existing youth organizations -- such as schools and community centers -- to introduce children and young adults to digital art. We are especially interested in reaching youth that would not otherwise have access to digital technology and exposing them to new forms of expression and new ways of understanding the world.
By working with high schools and youth organizations, AMODA can give educators and other youth leaders access to resources that might otherwise be hard to come by. Examples include: technical support and training for computer equipment; advising for the purchasing of equipment to support educational programs; working with educators to build a curriculum; organizing trips to AMODA for exhibitions or special events; and bringing digital art and artists to the school or youth institution.
Program Outline
The Youth Media program starts by selecting an Austin youth organization for partnership. AMODA staff then works with the organization's directors and staff to develop a year-long plan that uses AMODA's resources in art and technology to support the organization's charter. As that plan is being implemented, AMODA and the organization meet to chart and guide the progress of the program. Finally, at the end of the program, AMODA meets with the organization for a post-program assessment and evaluation of the program's success in meeting the original goals.
Program History
In 2000-2001, AMODA Youth Media was successfully pilotted at The Griffin School.
On July 7, 2001 AMODA Youth Media participated in a mini-digital showcase for high school students attending the Nextech Conference.
Currently, Youth Media is working with Out Youth Austin.
