Nextech Conference
reviewed by AMODA volunteer Chris Auger
Well, yet another successful collaboration by AMODA. This week was the Nextech conference for high school students in technology from throughout the U.S. put on by Envision. When AMODA was asked to help out, we rose to the occasion and put together a mini-showcase for the kids to get a taste of Digital Art and Music.
Jeremy
Ballard and Kurt
Korthals provided the music. Micah
Magee with CinemaTexas and her crew provided the video
art. The two hour event included two big stereo screens for
the video art and a huge projection in the middle of the view
from a portable camera that wandered the room (live video
streaming art). And in the middle sat the musical artists
who played two 45 min sets.
Students were ecstatic to have a representation of digital art at the conference and supported AMODA's representation again next year. They were also excited about the museum and our mission. Some were interested in our upcoming E|D-Newsletter (educational resource/newsletter) Many had questions for the artists during the Q&A afterwards.
Overall, the conference was a fun event. We look forward to working more with Envision in the future. A big thank you to the artists and especially to Todd Simmons for going above and beyond the call of duty to make this night happen. We appreciate it. The kids appreciated it. The museum appreciates it.
